A ridge on the posterior surface on the head that separated the dorsal and lateral surfaces (the vertex and the genae, respectively) from the occipital surface. Also called nuchal carina. In most ant species the occipital carina is not visible in full-face view but it may be sometimes visible either as a narrow rim or as a flaring collar (= the nuchal collar).
