Usually apophysis is differnciated from ridge. However, in many instances (if we go for higher magnification, almost in all instances, the apophyses have 2d extension. So they are ridges. Should we differenciate apophyses from ridges? I think we should simple use apodeme for any internal, convex modifications of the integument. The same is for carina and process/protuberances.
